Abstrak

This study aims to describe the pragmatic form and function of commissive speech in communication of Student Executive Board (BEM) of Veteran Bangun Nusantara University and its role in building student organizational trust. The research uses a descriptive qualitative approach with a pragmatic study. The data source is in the form of speech that contains commissive speech actions obtained from oral communication in organizational meeting forums and workshops as well as written communication through the organization’s WhatsApp group. The data collection technique is carried out through the method of listening with the technique of free participation (SLBC), observation, documentation, and recording. Data is analyzed through the stages of data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawn. The results of the study showed that the forms of commissive speech found included the act of promising, undertaking offering, and giving assurance. These forms are used by organitation administrators as a communication strategy to bind themselves to actions that will be carried out in the future. In addition, commissive speech has several pragmatic functions, namely showing organizational commitment, building internal coordination, fostering a sense of responsibility, and creating positive expectation among organizational members. The findings of the study show that commissive speech plays an important role in building the credibility, legitimacy, and trust of student organizations. The more consistent the organizational management is in realizing the commitments conveyed through the commission’s speech, the higher the level of trust formed within the student organization.
