Dinamika peran sekolah dasar dalam pelestarian nilai sosial budaya di era globalisasi

Abstract

This research discusses how an elementary school transforms into a stronghold for preserving socio-cultural values amid the rapid influence of globalization in the environment of SD Negeri Pasir Wetan. The study employed a descriptive qualitative method using observation, interviews, and document collection techniques conducted on May 7, 2026. Research data were obtained from the principal, teachers, and students. The purpose of this study was to reveal the school’s contribution in preserving social culture, the teachers’ efforts in character building, and the impact of global modernization on children’s socio-cultural behaviour. The findings indicate that the school plays a significant role in maintaining cultural identity through Banyumasan cultural learning, character education, the cultivation of politeness, togetherness activities, and the celebration of national holidays. Teachers also serve as real-life role models in instilling discipline, solidarity, responsibility, and respect among students through both classroom learning and daily activities. In addition, the school attempts to integrate local culture with modern technological developments so that students continue to recognize their cultural roots despite living in the digital era. Nevertheless, the influence of social media and globalization is still evident in students’ behaviour, such as the dominance of slang language usage, increasing interest in digital culture, and the gradual decline in the use of regional languages. Therefore, the school continues to strengthen cultural preservation through character education, cultural programs, and collaboration with parents in supervising children’s use of technology. This study confirms that elementary schools play an important role as spaces for character development and guardians of the continuity of society’s socio-cultural values.
